In the April edition of Corporate Financier, Harry Knight, our Director of Corporate Finance, discussed the UK government's plans for reforming the rules governing Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs). There is widespread recognition within the sector of the need for some changes. However, concerns have been voiced about the potential for these changes to curtail the recent strong growth of EOTs through overzealous regulation. Knight emphasised the need to remain true to the core principles of EOTs, stating, 'Successive governments have supported the concept of EOTs so we have to hope we get tweaks designed to ensure the spirit of the original concept is respected, rather than anything more drastic.'
